In November 2022, Manchester voters approved the funding to build a new main library at 1041 Main Street and the Board of Directors established the Library Building Committee dedicated to the planning and oversight of the project. Downtown Manchester Improvements Project

The United States Environmental Protection Agency states... &ldquo;Sustainability is based on a simple principle: Everything that we need for our survival and well-being depends, either directly or indirectly, on our natural environment. To pursue sustainability is to create and maintain the conditions under which humans and nature can exist in productive harmony to support present and future generations.&rdquo; You will notice many litter-related aspects to this webpage. To address litter is to support environmental conservation. The Town of Manchester recognizes that litter has become a growing issue in our public spaces and we are working on a multi-pronged approach to tackling this complex issue.

The Town of Manchester Board of Directors has taken a significant step towards enhancing its commitment to sustainable transportation and community well-being by passing a resolution to endorse the application for Manchester to become a National Bike Friendly Community through the League of American Bicyclists.The resolution highlights Manchester&#39;s rich history of promoting cycling and developing multi-use trails, dating back to the establishment of the Hockanum River Linear Park Trail and the Cheney Rail Trail in the 1970s. The ongoing efforts to expand and enhance Manchester&#39;s cycling infrastructure, including the completion of the Charter Oak Greenway and the Hop River Trail extension, demonstrate the town&#39;s dedication to creating safe and accessible pathways for cyclists of all ages and abilities.Additionally, the resolution recognizes the town&#39;s commitment to promoting cycling through various community events and initiatives, such as the annual 17-mile tri-town celebration event and the Elks Lodge 1893&#39;s bike rodeo at Charter Oak Park. These efforts, along with the installation of bicycle lockers, tool racks, and informational kiosks throughout the town, contribute to making Manchester a welcoming and bike-friendly community.

Bike Friendly Manchester

The Town of Manchester is embarking on an exciting project to renovate and upgrade Charter Oak Park West. The improvements are community-driven and informed by recommendations from the 2021 Town of Manchester Parks and Facilities Master Plan. At that time, survey results showed that Charter Oak Park is one of the most used parks in Town, with 56% of respondents saying they have used the park for recreation.In 2017 the Town completed $2 million worth of improvements to the eastern portion of the park including new playgrounds, basketball and tennis courts, a revamped softball field, a new music garden, improved walkways and bike paths, bathrooms, a pavilion, and more.The next phase of construction will include improvements to modernize the western portion of the park. The project will bring exciting elements to this location including a turf soccer field, an all-wheel park, a pump track, bathrooms, and a new parking area.Phase 1 of the project will be the new entrance, parking and the turf soccer field. Construction is scheduled to begin on this phase Summer of 2024.Phase 2 of the project will be the all-wheel park, the pump track and associated landscaping. Construction is scheduled to begin on this phase Spring of 2025.To the right, you&#39;ll find information on the project&#39;s team, timeline, and historical resources giving you an overview of what&#39;s in store for this project.Below you&#39;ll find three tabs. A Project Updates tab with important resources and reports to keep you up-to-date on the project&#39;s progress. The Share Your Ideas Board tab asks residents to share their thoughts/perspectives/opinions on the all-wheel park and pump track design. This interactive board lets you upload photos and like/comment on other&#39;s ideas. The Survey tab will offer the opportunity for the community to engage with the park developer and Town staff as we look for input and feedback on the project. Charter Oak West Park Improvement Project

The Recreation Division is committed to increasing public awareness around swimming lessons and swim safety and ensuring access to programs and facilities for all Manchester residents. All lifeguards are American Red Cross Certified, and have undergone extensive training to ensure the safety of all community members using our swimming facilities. Drowning is the second-leading cause of accidental death for children under 14 in the United States. Research has shown that formal swimming lessons reduce the risk of childhood drowning by 88%. Swim lessons are life-saving resources, critical to public health and well-being, and should be taught year-round.
