21st Century Senior Center Project

The 21st Century Senior Center project is an initiative to evaluate, design, and establish a modern, multi-functional facility tailored to the evolving needs of the town's growing older adult population. The goal is to develop a vibrant, inclusive space that promotes equity, healthy aging, lifelong learning, and social connectivity. The project has a focus on supporting expanded leisure, fitness, health, and social service programming while offering modern, accessible amenities for Manchester's diverse community of older adults.

The project's preliminary phase was an undertaking of the 21st Century Senior Center Task Force, which was formed by the Board of Directors in September of 2025 and tasked with exploring and researching current information to determine the appropriate location and building scope for a 21st Century Senior Center. Early in 2026, the town was presented with an opportunity to purchase 40 Pitkin Street, which was subsequently recommended by the task force as an appropriate location for a modern senior center. The Town then engaged with edmSTUDIOS and Lifespan Design to engage with the task force on the preliminary design and scope for the project. The task force and consultants then embarked on a month's long process which included numerous meetings, visits to area senior centers and comprehensive efforts to arrive a final recommendation. On August 5, 2026 the Task Force formally voted on a recommendation to the Board of Directors, indicating a preliminary design scope and cost.

On August 11, 2026 the Board of Directors adopted a resolution, with a vote of 6-1 supporting the task force's recommendation and instructing the Town Manager to prepare the matter for as a referendum question to be considered by Manchester voters on the November 3, 2026 ballot.
