Welcome to the Our Library, Our Future project page!
The 21st Century Manchester Public Library Task Force wants your input to help make community-driven decisions around the future of Manchester libraries. Your feedback will help make this a successful process and ensure that the voices of all interested residents are heard.
To the right, you'll find information on the project's team, a timeline, and an overview of what's in store.
Below you'll find two tabs. The Overview & Updates tab has important up-to-date resources and reports on the latest project findings, plus info on why the Town is embarking on this process. The Ideas tab asks residents to share your thoughts/perspectives/opinions on the future of Manchester's libraries. This interactive board lets you upload photos and like/comment on other's ideas.

A building with a large common area, meeting and performance spaces, a green roof that acts as a park and is powered with solar energy.

A children's messy space
A messy space can be a media lab, tinker lab, art studio or any brand of makerspace equipped with the latest tools to turn ideas into reality. The messy space should promote content creation and experiential learning for all in the community.

Maker space
Create a small maker space with high end computers. Wide format printers, 3d printers, design supplies etc...

Keep doing what you are doing but enough with the silence, get people talking.
I have always found the Manchester Library a great place. Perhaps story telling with books on Saturday mornings. I had a library annex in Hartford several doors down. A lady read books on Saturdays to us children and it was what got me into reading the Landmark series. That lady made reading seem like a skill I needed. Maybe book clubs where a diverse group of children read books and discuss how they interpret it. I also was lucky enough to belong to the Mitchell Club which had social groups that were made up of children the same age from different schools. It helped with diversity, understanding and made the world a bigger but friendlier place.

Passport/ID Photo Service?
Not sure if this would be applicable to this taskforce but perhaps if we had a station for patrons to get their passport/ID appropriate pictures taken? I feel it could be in line with how voter registration forms are currently offered and I have seen this at other libraries.
