Board Approves Main Street Improvements "Streetscape" Project
On February 4, the Board of Directors passed a resolution to proceed with the Downtown Streetscape Project, advancing the design that includes a road diet, two roundabouts, and a cycle track. This approval ensures that the project will move forward with these key elements incorporated into the final plans.
Funding & Next Steps
There is currently $8.35 million secured through grant funding, and the project team is actively pursuing additional funding opportunities through 2025. Multiple grant programs are available, and efforts are underway to secure the remaining funding needed for construction.
The project team is preparing updates to share with the public, with the goal of finalizing the design by the end of 2025.
Project Features
The Streetscape Project is designed to enhance safety, mobility, and accessibility in the downtown area. Key elements include:
✅ A road diet – Reducing from four lanes to three to improve traffic flow and pedestrian safety.
✅ Two modern roundabouts – Located at Hartford Rd and Center St, designed to calm traffic and reduce congestion.
✅ A cycle track – A dedicated, separated bike lane, primarily along the west side of Main St, to improve multimodal transportation.
Additional Infrastructure Upgrades
Beyond these major elements, the project also includes:
🔹 Upgraded traffic signals for better efficiency and safety.
🔹 New light poles for enhanced visibility.
🔹 Hardscape improvements, including new curbing and pedestrian-friendly enhancements.
These upgrades will modernize infrastructure that has not been comprehensively updated since the early 1990s.
What’s Next?
With the project moving forward, community engagement remains a priority. The Town will continue to provide updates as the design progresses and will share opportunities for public input. Stay tuned for future announcements on funding, public meetings, and next steps.
