Downtown Manchester Improvements Project
The Downtown Manchester Improvements project aims to make Main Street safer and more enjoyable for everyone who uses it, whether you're walking, biking, driving, or taking public transportation.
We want to create a street that's easy to access and vibrant, with plenty of space for people to gather and enjoy. This means adding things like safer crossings, bike lanes, and nicer sidewalks, as well as creating more places to sit and relax. Overall, we're working to make Main Street a better place for everyone in our community.

Chip17about 2 years agoMore well lit walkways to the rear parking lots (put a walkway, stairs and a terrace where the Great Harvest Bread building was)
Better access to rear public parking lots on Main
1 comment1Kay Chillabout 2 years agoI don't think a Roundabout is a good idea for this area. Driving in Manchester is already difficult, I just don't see this working.

People coming down South Main Street from I384 are going to come FLYING Up Main Street after getting off the highway. And people don't know how to PROPERLY use roundabouts. If two vehicles coming from the same direction at the same time how does anyone else get a chance to enter?

There is a flooding issue -particularly in some of the back lots. The water rushes downhill from Main Street and into the lots (ex. down Bissel/Birch). So many lots is convenient for parking-but so much asphalt means water is not absorbed into the ground. Is there room in these plans to address this concern in some ways? Perhaps "green" options that redirect rain or change ground covering? Some sort of drainage system or mitigation that could be done when you are working on the sidewalks and Main Street - especially where water floods downhill into the lots and basements of neighboring buildings and homes?

Not sure how to say it --but the overall "look" of Main St is "large" - light posts are overly tall, banners are high, the street is wide. As you look at the complete streetscape and pedestrian attraction - it would be great if things are visually more cozy and "downtown-like." Could the light fixtures be lower? Banners at more of a pedestrian height like other towns have? Will lighting be more green/sustainable in any way? Hoping that the light installed takes into account light pollution / shining light only where needed (especially as more apartments are added on upper levels.) I know the Town isn't responsible for private buildings, but if the Town has any resources to help bring back/update the awnings so that they can be open -or help with some of the signage, etc. to have a consisgtent (yet modern) look.
